Olena privacy policy

Olena is a task management (GTD) app for iOS. This policy explains, honestly, what data Olena stores and what it does — and does not — do with it.

Summary

Olena has no server of its own. There is no Olena backend that your data travels to. Everything you create in Olena lives on your device and, if you have an active iCloud account, in your private CloudKit container — the same mechanism Apple uses to sync Notes or Reminders across your devices. Nobody at Olena, and no third party, can see your tasks.

What data Olena stores

• Your tasks, projects, areas, contexts, time blocks, perspectives, and review logs. This is content you write: titles, notes, dates, contexts, checklists.
• Device settings (accent color, whether you enabled haptics, the calendar export range, your workday window): synced between your own devices via iCloud (NSUbiquitousKeyValueStore), not part of your exportable data.
• Calendar and Reminders access, if you grant permission, to show your events alongside your tasks and create the ones you schedule from the app.
• Local notifications scheduled on your device to remind you of tasks and reviews — they do not go through any third-party push server.

Subscription and purchases

Olena is a single yearly subscription app, with a full year of free trial. The purchase and its verification are handled by StoreKit 2, directly between your device and Apple — Olena has no server of its own, so it never receives or processes your payment method or purchase history: Apple handles that. The only thing Olena stores locally (on your device and its App Group, not on any server) is the already verified result — whether you have access or not, and until when — so the app, widgets, and Siri know whether to show your data in full or read-only mode. Cancelling the subscription never deletes your data: you can always view, export, and delete it yourself.

Where each piece of data lives

What Olena never does

• It has no server of its own and no backend that your data is sent to.
• It uses no third-party SDKs, verified automatically on every build.
• It does not track your activity or share it with anyone for advertising purposes (NSPrivacyTracking is false in the app’s privacy manifest).
• It collects no usage analytics or telemetry.
• It does not sell or share your data with third parties, because it does not collect it in the first place.

Your controls

From Settings → Privacy and Data you can:

• Export all your data to a dated .json file.
• Import a backup, in merge mode (adds and updates without deleting what’s not in the file) or replace mode (leaves the app exactly like the backup).
• Erase all your data: local model and its CloudKit replica, scheduled notifications, Spotlight index, widget cache, and any in-progress Live Activity. With a separate checkbox to also delete calendar events created by Olena.
• Enable Face ID or Touch ID lock (off by default). The lock only protects the app: the Home Screen widget and Spotlight results keep showing your tasks while the phone is unlocked, even if the app is locked.

Data protection

The database file and the temporary files a backup export generates carry iOS’s NSFileProtectionComplete protection class: inaccessible while the device is locked.

Children’s privacy

Olena is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from children. Since no data is collected about any user, this holds true by design.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the “Last updated” date at the top of this document will be updated accordingly.
